COMPOSITION

Each film-coated tablet contains:
- Fexofenadine Hydrochloride I.P equivalent to Fexofenadine 180 mg.
Excipients: q.s.

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Fexofenadine is an antihistamine with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. It is a non-sedating antihistamine with minimal penetration across the blood-brain barrier. It does not exhibit significant anticholinergic or alpha-adrenergic blocking activity.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children 12 years and older.
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria to reduce pruritus and the number of wheals.
- Effective against symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itchy throat, and itchy, watery eyes.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

- Hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine or any of the tablet's ingredients.
- Severe renal impairment without proper dose adjustment.
- Concomitant use with fruit juices may reduce bioavailability.

PRECAUTIONS

- Use caution in patients with renal impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary.
- Not recommended in children below 12 years of age for the 180 mg strength.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery until individual response is known.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

- Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium may reduce absorption of Fexofenadine.
- Fruit juices (apple, orange, grapefruit) may decrease drug bioavailability.
- Erythromycin and ketoconazole increase plasma levels of Fexofenadine without clinical consequences.

PREGNANCY & LACTATION

- Pregnancy: Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
- Lactation: It is not known whether Fexofenadine is excreted in human milk. Caution advised.
- Limited human data, but animal studies have shown no teratogenic effects.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

- Adults and children >=12 years: 180 mg once daily with water.
- Do not take with fruit juices or antacids.
- Administer on an empty stomach for better absorption.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

- Common: Headache, dizziness, nausea, drowsiness.
- Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions including rash, pruritus, and urticaria.
- Very rare: Tachycardia, palpitations, and insomnia.
