PRIDECORT

Deflazacort is a glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It is a prodrug that is metabolized to the active compound 21-desacetyldeflazacort. It has approximately 70-90% the potency of prednisone and a high therapeutic index.

Indicated for treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune conditions including COPD, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular dystrophy, nephrotic syndrome, and organ transplantation.

Hypersensitivity to deflazacort or any component of the formulation. Systemic fungal infections.

Caution in patients with osteoporosis, diabetes, peptic ulcer, and psychiatric disorders. Monitor bone density and blood glucose regularly.

May interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers, antidiabetic drugs, and NSAIDs. Monitor closely.

Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus. Use with caution during lactation.

Initial dose ranges from 6-90 mg/day depending on condition. Taper gradually as per clinical response.

Hyperglycemia, osteoporosis, hypertension, behavioral changes, Cushingoid features, and increased susceptibility to infection.
