COMPOSITION
Each vial contains:
- Sulbactam 1 gm for Injection
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that restores the efficacy of beta-lactam antibiotics by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria.
INDICATIONS AND USAGE
Indicated for:
- Multidrug-resistant infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Surgical prophylaxis
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sulbactam or any beta-lactam antibiotics.
PRECAUTIONS
Monitor for allergic reactions.
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
May enhance the effects of other antibiotics and interact with anticoagulants.
Monitor INR if used with warfarin.
PREGNANCY & LACTATION
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
Only if clearly indicated.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Administer intravenously as per physician's direction depending on severity of infection.
Usually 1-2 gm/day in divided doses.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
May include rash, diarrhea, injection site reactions, and hypersensitivity.
